Coral Springs Secures $800,000 for 10.7-Mile Everglades Memorial Loop

Coral Springs has secured an additional $800,000 in appropriations funding for the Everglades Memorial Loop Coral Springs project, bringing new momentum to the city’s planned 10.7-mile walking and biking trail connecting neighborhoods to the Everglades conservation levee.

The long-term infrastructure initiative is expected to cost approximately $21.1 million and could take years to complete, but each funding milestone moves the project closer to reality.

What the Everglades Memorial Loop Coral Springs Will Include

When finished, the loop will:

  • Connect the Sawgrass Trailhead at Atlantic Boulevard
  • Run north to Wiles Road
  • Extend east toward Coral Ridge Drive
  • Link west to the Conservation Levee Greenway

Planned features include:

  • A pedestrian bridge over the Sawgrass Expressway at Wiles Road
  • A floating dock crossing along the Sunshine Water Control District canal
  • A three-story Everglades lookout tower near the Coral Springs
  • Sportsplex
  • Expanded multi-use paths designed for walkers, runners, and cyclists

The trail is divided into nine segments, some of which align with ongoing mobility improvements throughout the city.

Where the Funding Stands

The latest $800,000 award adds to:

  • $750,000 from a previous appropriations cycle
  • $300,000 in American Rescue Plan Act funding used for engineering

City officials continue to pursue state designation through the Florida Office of Greenways and Trails, a step that could unlock additional grant funding.

Projected completion is estimated around 2032, though timelines may shift depending on funding and coordination across agencies.

Why This Project Matters Long-Term

The Everglades Memorial Loop Coral Springs project is more than a recreational path. It represents a broader shift toward:

  • Expanded pedestrian infrastructure
  • Reduced vehicle dependency
  • Increased connectivity between neighborhoods and natural areas

If you’ve noticed widened shared-use paths along corridors like Royal Palm Boulevard, those improvements are part of the larger mobility framework feeding into this loop.

For residents, the project promises something rare in South Florida: a continuous route from established neighborhoods to the Everglades edge without navigating high-speed traffic corridors.

Infrastructure like this builds slowly. But once in place, it reshapes daily movement patterns for decades.
