Police Want Crypto ATMs Gone. What 450 Salon Reviews Revealed.
A nature preserve could have been 195 homes, and sometimes making life harder is exactly the point.

A scam victim walks toward a crypto ATM. A growing city sets aside 38 acres that could have become nearly 200 homes. A salon client tries to decide who should cut or color their hair.

Very different moments, but each turns on a decision that can be difficult to undo once it's made.

This week looks at what can happen when the right information, safeguard, or second thought arrives before that point.

Hair Salons: The Stylist Matters, But Not Quite the Way You Might Think

Choosing a hair salon often starts with the business: its reviews, reputation, prices, and services.

But after analyzing 450 recent reviews across nine Coral Springs salons, we found customers overwhelmingly describe their actual experience through something much more personal.

What surprised us was what didn't appear to distinguish the strongest experiences from the rest. Another, less frequently mentioned part of the stylist-client relationship showed a much stronger connection.

Understanding that distinction could change what you look for before your next appointment.

What is  a Pattern Report?
Pattern Reports analyze customer feedback across an entire business category to identify the trends, tradeoffs, and decision-making insights that individual reviews often miss.

Why Making Something Harder Can Sometimes Help

We usually try to remove extra steps from life. But sometimes an extra step is exactly what protects us from a decision we'll regret.

Making an expensive purchase, sending an angry message or moving a large amount of money instantly leaves little opportunity to reconsider.

For decisions that are costly, emotional or difficult to reverse, try deliberately adding a little friction—a waiting period, an extra confirmation or a second person to consult.

Sometimes the extra step isn't an inconvenience. It's an escape hatch.

Signs of progress and possibility around Coral Springs

Why Coral Springs Police Want to Ban Crypto ATMs

Twenty-six Coral Springs residents have reportedly lost more than $320,000 to cryptocurrency scams since 2024.

But police are focusing on something that happens after a victim has already believed the scammer.

In some cases, victims withdraw cash, travel to a crypto ATM and follow instructions to send the money to a digital wallet. Police say 42% of reported cases involved visits to multiple machines.

Florida will soon require warnings and transaction limits at crypto kiosks. Coral Springs Police wants the city to consider going further and banning them entirely.

The idea reveals a different approach to scam prevention: finding ways to interrupt the transaction even after the deception has worked.

Why Sandy Ridge Sanctuary Exists in the Middle of Coral Springs

Sandy Ridge Sanctuary looks like a piece of Coral Springs that development simply passed by. It wasn't.

During the city's rapid growth in the 1990s, residents voted to borrow $7.5 million to preserve environmentally sensitive land. Sandy Ridge became one of the places protected.

Local historical accounts say its nearly 38 acres had instead been slated for 195 homes.

Today, residents can walk its trails beneath slash pines and oaks, while gopher tortoises displaced by development elsewhere have found protected habitat there.

What looks like untouched land today is actually the result of a decision Coral Springs residents made more than 30 years ago about what they wanted their growing city to preserve.

Small Extras, From Time to Time

From time to time, Coral Springs Insider readers may notice small extras and local thank-yous tucked into the newsletter.

Nothing flashy or overdone.

Just thoughtful advantages for people who enjoy staying connected to what’s happening around town.

The Sandy Ridge story caught me this week because it's easy to walk through a preserve and assume it was always meant to be there.

In this case, residents made a choice more than 30 years ago that we're still able to enjoy today.

Most decisions don't come with a sign telling us how long they'll matter. Every once in a while, Coral Springs gives us a chance to see what one became.

Thanks for reading. See you next Thursday.
